"The Company That You Keep...
We've been blessed to have three beautiful nieces, along with three beautiful nephews and one great nephew in our lives. To have watched them grow in their mommy's (my sisters) bellies, to birth, and to see their development over the years has been such a rich blessing. One thing that amazes me about each of my nieces, is their giftedness in talents; from artist, to entrepreneur, to gadget girl; fashionista and nail technician extraordinaire. They surely are not shy of work nor growth.
The youngest niece of them all, Thea, who is now twelve years old, has surprised me the most. She seems to be certain of what she wants out of life and selective in her circle of friends. On this one occasion, we wanted to surprise Thea and provide her limousine service for her birthday. As we drove across the Georgia state line, making our way to North Carolina, we envisioned what it would be like taking a limo full of pre-teens on an evening out on the town. The plans were already in motion. Thea had contacted her friends and notified her sisters. The night would consist of dinner at California Pizza Kitchen; Mall time; Movies of their choosing in the limousine; and paint and pottery time. The creativity of all of the guest was astounding, particularly that of Crystal, our eldest niece, whose been a natural born artist since she was three years old. She colored and drew in three dimension (3D) even at that early age. Her creation, was a Japanese cherry blossom design on a ceramic plate. I was floored by the ease in which she free handidly created this one of a kind masterpiece. Everyone was having a great time creating, changing and making their creations their own. This made it a bit difficult to leave the crafts behind for the finishing touches of firing. But we did.
As we moseyed along to our next destination, Thea's friends, Angel, Heaven, and Crystal accompanied her: Yes, you read that correctly! If there's anything to be said about a name, these young ladies in the making have high expectation, for which they are well on their way to fulfilling. Thea, whose name means "Who Is Like God", her best friends are Angel, Heaven and Crystal. Not only did she have friends with celestial names, but they were well behaved, manner able, refreshingly uplifting young ladies in the making. It was so refreshing to see our niece develop to this stage of choosing friends wisely. She's since then added another friend by the name of Skyla; who is also a gem of a friend. The company that you keep speaks volumes about you, your perception and your values. And Thea's friends lifted us heavenward and pushed us to explore things from various view points as only developing, celestial minded young ladies could do. Keep on making wise choice! Now that's DA Art of Living!
