Creative Space

Creative Space

Creative  Space is not relegated to a brick and mortar edifice. It does not limit itself to a particular region, nor does it have its own time zone. Rather, creative space is the place where the artist in you comes alive and the juices of creativity flow easily, where your can be your authentic self. You can easily see yourself floating on the weightless clouds of inspiration and repose.

I vividly recall sitting in the auditorium at Georgia Tech University, eagerly awaiting to hear one of my childhood, poetic authors preach the words in rhyme and time. Her six foot tall stature commanded a level of respect and a modified reverence. When she entered the space, she appeared to gliding across the stage, even with her assistance in the shadow distance. Her sheer presence demanded a standing ovation, even before she spoke. Dr. Maya Angelou is one such woman.  She has the ability to weave words,  with the loom of  life experiences, both great and small; and the issues of justice and injustice, minuet and tall; with that of gender equality and inequalities, right or wrong. She is phenomenal!  Although this sharing of space was well over five years ago, I recall it like yesterday. She left me inspired, hopeful for our future and empowered to take forward steps and make the necessary changes for our world. The last and most impressionable words spoken were affirmations that each of us are orchestrators of our lives! We are both the conductor and the musicians. We are the sound technicians and the light.  Not only must we show up, but we must show up ready for the stage of life.  When I left this space that the hundreds had shared with Dr. Angelou, I felt inspired to position myself in a space and place where I could fully be my best creatively, personally, professionally, spiritually and orchestrate my life with God at the helm.

I find my greatest level of creativity for writing out in God's canopy called nature:  Be it in the mountains, or on the sunny beaches that afford a whisper of a warm, cooing breeze, I am at my best! But when time and other points don't allow for that level of escape, I ensure that I have alternate creative spaces.  Funny how the aroma of imported, and roasted coffee, mingled with an eclectic mix of music, blended with lowly spoken conversations, along with key board pecking, can serve as my creative space. It is in the latter environment that I find myself writing this Sunday's blog.

Whatever your creative space(s) may be, guard it, treasure it and make time to BE in it!  Let the creative juices flow...
