Let's Go Fly A Kite!

Let's Go Fly A Kite!

The second "most wonderful time of the year" for me is Easter! It's a day of promise and hope in what's to come. And the vibrant colourful, customed-made kites and hot cross buns of Bermuda puts me in an Easter state of mind.

It's been a while since I've spent my Easter with family in Bermuda, but the memories are more than enough to vividly relive and recall easily. An array of pastel coloured homes, and pink sand, serve as a drawn veil to Spring and its first holiday. The smell of fresh hot cross buns that have been made with great care and love waft in the air and filled picnic baskets, along with fish cakes, fruit, Barretts ginger beer and a fun-packed day. The bikes (scooters) buzz up and down Middle road,South & North shore making their way to families and the Horseshoe beachm where the skies are filled with one of a kind, kites that have taken on a life of their own and its creator. I can imagine it a perfect day for taking a dip in the ocean for tourist from the North (stateside), as the turquoise waters beckon the sun bathers with hats and books in hand! Laughter fills the air and smiles appear upon faces of the locals first holiday. Clearly while warm, the water is not warm enough for locals to swim.

The kites shower the blue and white clear skies and then the judges score the kites on their originiality, colour, and design. Regardless of the winner in the categories, it is a great day to fly a kite and set your cares a drift.

Now that's DA Art of Living!
