Fall Is Here!

A long line of cars, meandered on a two lane highway, making their way north, to the mountains of Georgia. This was the definitive sign that Fall was here.  Many were making their way North to immerse themselves into the rich, reds, greens, browns, and orange hues of Fall.  With apple picking and gold digging in sight, the rear view mirror blurred of the cares they’ve left behind.
I pressed South towards the city, where “The Potter’s House” on the radio, brought back memories of first hearing the “Twins” of Charlotte NC testify in song to what God is capable of doing and renewing.  So you can imagine, to my surprise, but not God’s, that the sermon topic of the day came from Jeremiah 18, referencing the “Potter’s House”.  It was here that the first Biblical Make Over was noted around the Potter, and us as the clay.  Like the season itself, Fall is a time for off with the old, to make room for the new: a transition time. I have to admit, that while I appreciate the beauty of Fall, and what it represents, I dread the cold of winter.  If I had my druthers, I would be in the balminess of the Caribbean or Panama for the winter season/transition, and then make my way back for the renaissance of Spring.
Later on that same Fall afternoon, I met up with one of  my best  girl friends and her toddler grandson, Giovanni. We marveled at the ease in which he walked up to strangers, striking his smile and his swag, with few, if any words spoken.  Instantly he made new friends! Kindness was the universal language he spoke to those he met from Florida, Ethiopia, Mexico and else where.  His playfulness and explorative spirit with the hoola hoops, was an invitation to us and his newly made friends, to  join him, to play, and frolic in the sun.  Here again, the pumpkins, varied squash, scare crows and bundles of hay, reminded us that Fall was truly here!
Perhaps the greatest lesson of the day, was taught to us by a child. Smile easily, laugh belly laughs, walk in your swag with ease, play well with others, charm them a little too, and don’t easily give up or give in to others.
